Research into the fundamental properties of a wide range of timbers has led to improved production methods, and the efficient utilisation of one of Australia's most valuable natural resources.

This film takes a look at the industry in 1969 - mechanised saw-milling; timber seasoning and preservation; the manufacture of plywood, hardboard, particle-board and paper pulp; and the establishment of pine plantations to supply the softwoods lacking in our native forests.
