The wood boring habits of the elephant weevil is known to cause some economic damage to vineyards in Australia. This species also feeds on Eucalyptus species and is known to occur on other important horticultural plants such as fruit and citrus trees. The elephant weevil can be found over much of Australia from Queensland down to Tasmania and across into South Australia.
