Dr Theo Evans studying how termites use vibrations to choose their food.
TopResearchers from CSIRO Entomology have found that, rather than being indiscriminate eaters, termites use sonic vibrations to test the resonance of a piece of wood to determine if it is their preferred size or composition before feeding on it.
This discovery may lead to more targeted, non-polluting management of these insects which cost the Australian economy around $780 million per year.
