Monitoring Effects of Drilling on Marine Ecosystem

Top
CSIRO expertise has been applied to assess water quality and benthic (bottom-dwelling) marine life near a new oil production well in the North West Shelf. CSIRO developed a baseline monitoring strategy to characterise aspects of the seabed ecosystem and so measure effects of drilling or installation of a production platform. Seabed samples are analysed for characteristics including:- sediment particle size distribution.- chemical constituents of sediment.- animals in the sediment.- water quality.
