Because of its large fluffy flower spikes, this banksia is also known as the teddy-bear or possum banksia.

It was named Banksia baueri by Robert Brown in honour of Ferdinand Bauer, the outstanding botanist who accompanied Mathew Flinders on his voyage around Australia..
