Frederick White, pictured here with the new CSIRO headquarters building on Limestone Avenue, Canberra, was Deputy Chairman of the Organisation from 1957-59 and Chairman from 1959-70 and Chief Executive from 1949-56.

Born in New Zealand, White studied physics at Cambridge and taught in NZ before joining CSIR as Chief of the Division of Radiophysics. In 1945, he joined the executive of CSIR.
