| A computational fluid dynamics model of a coal furnace. The model reproduces the motion of gas and coal within the furnace as well as the kinetics of coal combustion and heat transfer processes. |

A scaled-down physical model of the coal furnace was built to validate the flow velocities predicted by the computational fluid dynamics model. |
