The MS Warreen was the first research vessel of CSIR's Division of Fisheries. It surveyed coastal and oceanic waters off eastern Australia between 1938-42, when she was taken into the Royal Australia Navy for war service. From 1946-51 she returned to CSIR, and continued with fisheries and oceanographic work off WA and SA.
