The Flexible Manufacturing Cell

For over fifty years automated manufacture has provided a cost effective solution for high volume production, particularly in the automotive industry. However the advantages of automated manufacture have not been available to companies with small or medium production runs.

With this in mind, CSIRO's Division of Manufacturing Technology have produced a Flexible Manufacturing Cell based on three standard robots and a machining centre, all linked to a central computer control unit.

This program features the Cell in operation as it produces a family of sample 'gearboxes'. The program shows in detail the functions and special features of each component of the cell.
