Safe-T-Cam automated imaging technology for monitoring transport

Top
Safe-T-Cam, developed by CSIRO in collaboration with the NSW Road Traffic Authority (RTA) and Telstra, is a world-leading technology aimed at improving road safety by monitoring road transport. The system uses infra-red technology and high-resolution cameras to capture images of passing vehicles. CSIRO has just completed a full upgrade of Safe-T-Cam on 19 RTA sites. The system has been upgraded with powerful new CSIRO-developed parallel computing technology and software that allows the system to automatically read all licence plates.

Safe-T-Cam’s core technology has wide commercial applications and, in addition to traffic authorities, could potentially benefit enforcement authorities, toll road operators, car parks and weighing stations, truck and bus fleet operators, and port operators and custom authorities for cargo container security.
