Dr Tim Wark and one of the hundred or so static sensor nodes that will process video and audio data so virtual visitors to Sweden's Lycksele Zoo can see what the animals see

Top
CSIRO-developed wireless sensor technology is being used in the largest outdoor wireless network of cameras and microphones in the world, at Sweden's Lycksele Zoo. The technology will enable visitors to go on a 'virtual tour' of the zoo.

CSIRO’s network will process video and audio data collected by around 100 static sensor nodes to determine the animals’ movements and whether they are grazing, sleeping or resting.

The system will use the solar-powered FLECK™ platform and a new digital signal processor to handle the images. The Fleck sensor technology has the advantages of low power usage, low-cost, reliable communications, robustness, small size and a flexible architecture.
