Tropical fire ants are one of the four most serious pest ant species in northern Australia, along with Yellow Crazy ants Anoplolepis gracilipes, African Big-headed ants Pheidole megacephala, and Singapore ants Monomorium destructor. CSIRO is currently working to eradicate tropical fire ants on the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin.
