VAMCAT unit

Top
CSIRO researchers have developed a technology known as VAMCAT (Ventilation Air Methane Catalytic Turbine). VAMCAT traps fugitive methane from the exhaust ventilation air of underground coal mines.

Methane emissions are 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas over a 100 year time frame. VAMCAT is powered by the methane it extracts and generates clean power in turn.
