The Penguins of Macquarie Island

King penguins, Gentoos, Rockhoppers, and the unique Royals - all four species are found in enormous numbers on Macquarie Island, south of Tasmania.

This brief account of life in the Island''s rookeries was compiled from film taken by members of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition and officers of CSIRO. It shows the distinguishing features of each species, their mating displays and nesting habits, and the development of the chick.
