Ian Clunies Ross was the Chairman of CSIRO from 1949-59. He was remembered for his dynamic leadership and intensely human qualities.

With a background in parasitology and veterinary science, he first joined the CSIR in 1926 as a parasitologist and served as Director of the McMaster Animal Health Laboratory from 1931 until 1937. He returned to the organisation as Executive Officer in 1946.
