Mixed species in a fishing catch

Top
CSIRO researchers were involved in authoring a report which suggests that the selective fishing practices practised as part of the ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM) may exacerbate rather than reduce the impact of fishing on both fisheries and marine ecosystems.

The authors of ‘Ecosystem-based fisheries management requires a change to the selective fishing philosophy’ argue that a new, less selective approach to commercial fishing is needed to ensure the ongoing productivity of marine ecosystems and to maintain biodiversity.
