New gold nugget discovery

An 8 kg nugget from Victoria that was cut in two and a thin slice
taken out of the middle (The gold is an alloy of gold and silver)
A 1.6 Kg nugget from the Pilbara in Western Australia that was cut in half for the study (The gold is an alloy of gold and silver)

A microscope image of the internal structure of a gold nugget. The gold is made up of a large number of individual crystals, many of which appear striped in hte image, the stripes are twins that are characteristic of high temperatures
